17 year old Harpist Hannah Young

Hannah Young is principal harpist of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Hannah Young is a high school senior pursuing a harp performance degree. She is the principal harpist of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra since and 2010 and has performed with the DuPage Symphony Orchestra, the Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra, Wheaton Conservatory Choir and Harp Ensemble, St. Xavier University Orchestra, the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the West Suburban Youth Orchestra.

She has studied at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute with Ann Hobson-Pilot, retired principal harpist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The preceding summers Hannah studied at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival with Marian Shaffer, principal harpist of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, and she attended the Ann Yeung Summer Harp Institute at the University of Illinois. Hannah was selected to perform with both the All-State Honors Band and All-State Orchestra.  She was a member IMEA District Orchestra for four years. Hannah has also performed in master classes with Isabelle Perrin, harpist of the Orchestre National de France, and Faye Seeman, harp professor at Wheaton Conservatory.

Hannah is also principal harpist of the District 99 Symphonic Orchestra and has performed Handel Concerto in B-flat major with that ensemble. She is also a member of her school’s Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Lab Band, and A Cappella Choir.
