A WFMT debut for students from the relatively new Chicago High School for the Arts (chiarts), we welcome the chiarts Guitar Trio.
The Cathedral Guitars has enjoyed playing a great variety of music together for the past four years. This energetic trio consists of seniors at the Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts). Cuixi Aguilar-Arriagada, 17, Cesar Martinez, 17, and Justus Richardson, 17, started playing guitar together their freshman year at ChiArts. In their sophomore year, they formed Cathedral Guitars and have been steadily playing together ever since.
Cuixi and Cesar have both been seriously playing for the past five years, and Justus for the past seven. In their time playing together they’ve received a variety of individual accolades and have been invited as an ensemble to play at events at Victory Gardens Biograph Theatre and the Harris Theatre for Music and Dance.
While they grew up studying a variety of musical genres—from traditional Spanish guitar to metal—their studies and sound have shifted to a more unified focus in classical and jazz guitar under their current coach and instructor, Tom Clippert.
The Cathedral Guitars looks forward to playing together in the coming year and then pursuing careers in guitar (Cesar), composition (Justus) and cinematography (Cuixi) as the three head off to college next year.
