As the daughter of two professional musicians who have both loved and appreciated music since their childhoods, Masha Lakisova began her musical journey with the piano at age four. About a year after her first formal introduction to music, Masha began taking violin lessons with Larisa Zhizhin. Today she studies with Drew Lecher of Naperville, Illinois.
Surrounded by music connoisseurs, Masha is often asked to perform, especially at her local church in Long Grove. In addition to piano and violin, Masha also enjoys playing harp and guitar, as well as singing. In 2011 the young artist has been involved in a production of “Cinderella” at a local Park District in Vernon Hills Illinois, where she played the lead role of Cinderella. Masha enjoys playing in Philharmonia Orchestra at MYA in Highwood, Illinois (Midwest Young Artists), where is a concertmaster.
As well as singing in Voices Rising and playing in the piano trio (both are MYA based).
Masha appeared with Tutti Chamber Orchestra on February 20th of 2011. At that time she played first movement of Vivaldi Concerto for violin in A minor Op. 3, no. 6. On May 1st of 2011, she had an opportunity to perform an entire concerto by Vivaldi with Tutti Chamber Orchestra.
Masha is home schooled by her mom, and is in 5th grade.
In 2011 she won 1st prize at Illinois Music Association competition. Also, she participated in National Walgreens Competition, where she became a Winner in Early Music Category, as well as she received Honoroble Mention in her age division. In 2012, she received “Outstanding Awards” for Bach double and Nigun by Bloch at a National Granquist Geneva Days Music Competition. In the fall of 2012 Masha won 1st place in The 28th Annual Music Festival in Honor of Confusius. She will perform Bach double violin concerto on December the 9th at Northbrook Library with Tutti Chamber Orchestra. Masha also will appear on “Introductions” (WFMT 98.7) with David Polk on December 15th of 2012.
She would like to thank her parents, Lyudmila Lakisova and Arkady Peck, her wonderful teacher Drew Lecher for his coaching and encouragement, Dr. Dennis and MYA staff for a great opportunity to grow as a young musician, and all of her friends and family for their continuous support and encouragement. Above all, she would like to thank God who gave her the gift of music!
