Kate Lee is a senior at Vernon Hills High School and will attend Northwestern University in the fall for voice and music education.

We’ll start off today’s program with a performance in our Levin Performance Studio and continue with the winner of this year’s Midwest Young Artists Walgreens National Concerto Competition, violinist Gallia Kastner.

Kate Lee, currently a senior at Vernon Hills High School, has been keeping quite busy these past few years.  She is the president of her senior class and is on the leadership team for several clubs.  Kate has performed in six theatrical productions and even directed a one act.  Since she joined choir her freshman year, she has performed with with Treble Choir, Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, and the girl’s a cappella group “Lovenotes.”  She has also been in the IMEA District 7 Choir for three years and IMEA All-State Honors Choir for two years. Last May, Kate participated in her first competition held by Classical Singer Magazine in Los Angeles and was honored to be a national semifinalist. She had the opportunity to take two life-changing trips in 2011: a choir tour to Ireland in March, which showed her the beauty of shared music, and a humanitarian trip to Uganda, which showed her the necessity of it.  And so, she hopes to make the world a better place by sharing music, whether it be by performing or teaching.  She is the student director of the Chamber Choir and will be teaching and conducting a piece with the Treble Choir this spring. Next fall she will be attending Northwestern University to study Voice and Music Education.
